An awning is one of the most important accessories you need to invest in when you’re buying a caravan. It helps to open your living space up more and can make a caravan feel a whole lot bigger. At Caravan Helper, we’ve look at the various options there are out there for awnings, including the best caravan awnings, porch awnings, sun canopies and inflatable awnings.
Obviously, they come in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes. How you choose to use the space is entirely up to you and will greatly depend on your own touring needs and preferences. For example, some people choose to just use them as a drying space for laundry, storage, wet animals and wet children, while others use their awning as a fully-fledged extension of their caravan.
If you are still trying to decide how you are going to decorate, furnish and use your awning, we thought it might be helpful to look at some great caravan awning layout ideas we’ve found from around the web.

We loved the look of this lounge-style caravan awning layout. It features an incredibly comfortable l-shaped corner sofa, with space for about 3 to 4 people to sit with no hassle. Looking at the pictures, we’re impressed with this use of the space because rather than try to keep it airy and open, they’ve opted for the biggest sofa they can fit in there and there’s even space for a handy little foldaway table.
Who wouldn’t want to chill out there? Even on those cooler days during the summer, we are sure this would still be a great place to relax and watch the day roll by. This is the perfect option for small families with kids too.
S.K. Camping’s Caravan Awning Enclosure
Another great caravan awning idea we found was from S.K Camping’s Instagram account, featuring the brand-new Kampa Club Air Pro 330 and Kampa Air Break 5, 2019 models. These air awnings look amazing when used together to provide a fully enclosed area extending out from the caravan.
We love the fact that in addition to the full covered section, there’s that small uncovered section with a perimeter wall and space to move around with a small table. This is perfect when you want a little privacy, as it provides further coverage against nosy caravanning neighbours.
While a family dog calms down after a long walk, they could chill in the outdoor section, while your wife (or husband, ladies) chills out with a good book, without having to worry about who’s looking in. This is definitely one we would consider for our own caravanning experience.
Leisure Outlet’s Outdoor and Indoor Layout Using Awning and Canopy
On Leisure Outlet’s Instagram, they shared this great layout that incorporates an indoor section and outdoor section, with the help of an Outdoor Revolution Europa 380 Pro Caravan Awning Annexe. We love how the canopy to the end of the sealed in and covered section provides a little spot with a mini canopy, to enjoy a spot of lunch or a drink at the end of the day in a nice alfresco setting.
Although we’ve only shared a small number of caravan awning layout ideas in this post, we hope there’s been enough to spark your imaginative and creative minds. Really, there is no limit to how you can utilise the available space offered by an awning.
You can make them as simple or elaborate as you like. It really comes down to your budget, what suits your tourer’s shape and size and how comprehensive a setup you want. Obviously, if like the selections featured above, you use an air awning, you’ll find that a lot easier to install.
Happy caravanning!
Although not layout related, we would always recommend a fly screen for your caravan.
