So, you’ve invested in a caravan and think you have just about everything you need. You’ve got the leisure battery sorted, have an awning, television and everything else you can think of. It’s easy though to forget some of the seemingly smaller and less important items, like a hoover. However, if you are a way for a weekend or longer, or are just very house proud, you will need a small caravan vacuum to stay on top of all the dirt, dust and other mess generated.
While you may be thinking that you could just bring along the same vacuum cleaner you use in the house, you need to be careful. You need to take into consideration the same thing you did when you were buying a microwave, kettle and television for your caravan – the voltage.
You want something that is not going to make the electric hook-up trip or use too much power from your battery.
Further to that though, space is very limited in a caravan, so it is best to choose a small vacuum cleaner that will not take up too much room. Now, we realise at Caravan Helper that there are many caravan vacuum cleaners out there to choose from. We appreciate that not everyone has time to browse through them all and that for some people that would be too much of a headache.
That is why in the following post we are going to highlight several vacuum cleaners, six to be exact, that would be great choices for your tourer.
Best Caravan Vacuums Cleaners and Hoovers (Our Top Picks)
1. VonHaus Lightweight 2-in-1 Upright/Hand held Vac
The first small vacuum cleaner we believe would be an awesome choice for your caravan is this one from upright vacuum from VonHaus. This has definitely been made with the user’s convenience in mind. It is exceptionally light and can quickly convert from a fully functioning upright hoover to a hand held model at just the push of a button. The floor head attachment has wheels that make it glide across surfaces with relative ease.
It has been equipped with the cutting-edge HEPA filtration system, making it a very hygienic choice. This collects and then securely traps even the smallest of particles, stopping them from just being recirculated throughout the caravan.
It’s a bagless vacuum and although it has a relatively small dust tank, 1.3-litres is more than enough for the average caravan. As caravans are full of lots of nooks and crannies, just like your own home, there is a nice selection of accessories (upholstery tool, crevice tool and extension tube) to help make light work of even the harder to reach parts.
Want to know the most stunning thing, considering the quality? It’s on the market at the moment for under 30 quid!
2. PUPPYOO Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
The next small vacuum cleaner we want to talk about is this nice green-coloured one from PUPPYOO. Another bagless and 2-in-1 designed hoover that can be used on a variety of different surfaces, this 1.2-litre vacuum only weighs 1.5kg. This means that it is easy for most people to carry and use without causing fatigue.
As is generally standard these days this also features a HEPA filter. Along with that though, it also has three brush heads to choose from and the 2-in-1 nozzle. There’s a curtain brush and flexible brush to make it easier to manoeuvre around the floor and the flat nozzle can be used for those harder to reach crevices and corners of your tourer.
One of the striking things about the ground brush/main stick hoover head is that it is slimline enough to go under most furniture and other units.
A little more expensive than the VonHaus model, but still worth considering.
3. Holife Wet and Dry Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
The third small vacuum cleaner on our list is the rather practical and sleek wet and dry hand held cordless hoover from Holife. Obviously, the biggest draw to this particular model, aside from the fact it is cordless is the fact that it is a wet and dry vacuum cleaner. This is ideal when you are on holiday in your caravan, as we know that, try to avoid them as much as you might, accidents are going to happen. that means spillages, both wet and dry ones.
Though they may be accidents, that doesn’t stop them being a complete pain to clear up. With a lot of other similarly priced hoovers though, you would need to have two completely different cleaners to deal with dry and wet mess. This negates that need to buy two different cleaners.
The 4.0 KPA suction power that this appliance provides, you will be able to easily lift 500ml of dry substances or 50ml of liquids. It is powered by a 2200mAh li-on battery that provides around 20 to 45 minutes of usage time before it needs recharging. Charging it only takes around four to five hours and it comes with a charging station that can be mounted to a wall. This is great as it saves you some floor space in your caravan.
It really would be enough to justify the low price tag if it was just a simple and straight forward wet and dry vac, but it also comes with a variety of different nozzles, including the rubber nozzle for sucking up liquids, the brush head that can be extended to better clean corners and tight spots and the duckbill which is ideal for using on smaller areas of dirt on worktop surfaces and tables.
Easy to clean with a multi-layered filtration system, this is a great companion that will be just as useful for your car as it will your caravan.
4. Ymiko Handheld Cordless Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaner
Another, even more cost-effective, handheld wet and dry cordless vacuum cleaner is the next appliance we are going to discuss. From Ymiko, this offers slightly more powerful suction power measuring at 6kPA, meaning you will have even less trouble clearing a wide variety of messes. It offers a similar run time and charge time to the model above and comes complete with five accessories, meaning you can switch and change between these to ensure every square-inch of your caravan is thoroughly cleaned.
The HEPA filter can be removed and cleaned and offers two layers of filtration. All in all, for the price and the level of tech, ingenuity and convenience this offers, we think it is one you will want to think long and hard about before passing on it.
5. Black and Decker Dustbuster
The second-to-last vacuum cleaner we want to look at is the incredibly popular Dustbuster cordless hoover from Black & Decker. Aside from the fact it comes from a manufacturer having a sterling reputation for designing and producing stylish, powerful and very practical appliances, this is a cracking little vac. It has a bigger than you’d expect dust bowl capable of holding a maximum of 370ml.
The one downside we could pick out with this model is that it only offers around 7.5mins of use on a single charge. So, it might only be an option if you have a relatively small caravan or want to bolster your cleaning options with this for smaller messes and use another model for more intensive cleaning.
That aside, it does come with a charging base that can either be placed on a counter top somewhere or attached to the wall if you are short on available space.
6. Black and Decker Flexi Dustbuster Handheld Vacuum
The last item on our list is another from Black & Decker, the rather futuristic looking and very compact flexi Dustbuster vac. Now, this is the most expensive on our list, but before you completely write it off, check out what you get.
The streamlined design features a wrap-around 1.5-metres hose that is fully flexible, giving you one of the most versatile cleaners on this page. With a 560ml dust bowl and 15 minutes of use on a single charge, it is also incredibly efficient. Although it does not come with too many different accessories, the flip-out brush makes it much easier to safely tackle smaller debris and dust on more delicate areas and items such as vents and lamp shades.
There you have it, six great vacuum cleaners. All of which bring something a little different to the table. The best thing to do, we feel, when thinking about cleaning accessories like hoovers, is to figure out just how much mess you are going to generate in general, then take into consideration the space you have available and also your budget. Never simply buy something based on its low retail price or because it’s by your favourite brand, because you may find you end up investing in something not fit for your needs and requirements.
Look at them all individually and weigh up the pros and cons of each. The reason we choose the six above is because we believe these are the best of the best, so your own personal taste will come into play too.
